Johnny Maas, Principal

Johnny Maas is a principal at Andrew Mann Architecture. He has been with the firm since 2008 and brings over fifteen years of experience in residential, civic, hospitality, and specialty retail architecture. Prior to working at AMA, Johnny worked for firms in San Francisco and Florida where he developed a strong sense of craft and the skill of conveying ideas through drawings. With Andrew Mann, he’s merged that sensibility with the integration of practical building science into architecture. He and the firm are members of the International Passive House Association and strive for design solutions which promote occupant comfort and energy efficiency. Johnny enjoys collaborative work, visiting the jobsite, and establishing strong relationships with contractors and local craftspeople.

He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Notre Dame where he was the recipient of the David M. Schwarz traveling fellowship. Originally from Wisconsin, Johnny is an avid traveler and fascinated by local traditions and languages. He credits his artistic interest to his mother and aunt Kathy who started it all with a tackle-box of drawing supplies. And his desire for rational constructability comes from his grandfather, a civil engineer who led a general contracting firm in his hometown for 50 years. Johnny is a licensed architect in California and Wisconsin, and a LEED accredited professional.  He’s often found (barely) keeping up with his young, energetic children, whom he credits for keeping him humble, proud and fulfilled.
