Urban refinement shaped by natural light and materials

Designed for a Bay Area bachelor, this Nob Hill apartment, nicknamed “Dashiell Hammett meets James Bond” fuses hard-edged Film Noir urban sophistication with curvilinear, sensuous interior design. Due to a long-established rapport and mutual trust with our client, we created a distinctive, personal space that made the most of the 360-degree views of the city beyond.

The existing metal-frame windows, which cast cinematic light and shadow across the apartment, inspired the renovation’s architectural palette. A custom steel and glass partition replaces a formerly solid kitchen wall, expanding sightlines and reinforcing our clients’ desire for openness. The screen enhances both transparency and enclosure, establishing the home’s signature architectural feature and aligning with the refined yet moody aesthetic.

Handsomely appointed, meticulously edited

Simple walnut casework, stone countertops and ceramic subway tile provide a crisp, tailored backdrop. Each element contributes to a cohesive palette that complements the building’s architectural character while expressing the client’s personal style.

An interior reinvented by light

Framed views and changing daylight conditions shape the experience of the space. Light is an active design element, grounding the renovation and connecting the interiors with the city beyond.
