Noe Valley Perch

Perched on a hill within a dense San Francisco neighborhood, this house for a family of four offered an opportunity for transformation. The goals included expanding living spaces to embrace sweeping southern views, creating an open, light-filled layout for entertaining, and fostering connection to urban and distant natural surroundings. This inspired a contemporary rear expansion and refined front facade that honors the Victorian-era neighborhood. We conceived a solution using architecture to bridge the home’s past with the family’s forward-thinking worldview. The result is a balance between traditional front spaces and modern rear expression, with interiors shaped by the family’s lifestyle, travel, and cultural openness. A folded-plane stair anchors the home, drawing in light and linking all levels to the garden below.
